Delhirious
Delhi is crazy. It's 37 degrees, the air stinks, and the streets are chaos. it's impossible to do anything in a relaxed manner. crossing the street is the scariest thing ever. there are no traffic lights and no gaps in traffic. since there is no method of crossing the street, i just usually hide behind people when they're crossing, preferably fat mothers with their children--they offer ample protection. Autorickshaw drivers are the gutsiest, as they are driving a piece of shit scooter with a tent over it. So far, i have not seen any tourist attractions, but have been hounded incessantly by idiot touts, trying to get me to their tourist office or hotel. i have decided not to trust anybody in india, and it is working well so far. had chai with some man who kept badgering me this morning, he took me to the "official" tourist office, where the agent told me they had no trains to jaipur this week. walked out, got in an autorickshaw, went to the train station, and booked it there instead. delhi is not all bad though--my belly is great (touch lucri), my hotel has satellite tv, and the room is clean. some people are friendly.
tomorrow i take a 6 am train (love that jet lag) to jaipur. i have heard that rajasthan is the worst for idiot touts, and so am going to wear my most indian outfit tomorrow (collared long sleeve shirt, khaki pants). shopped for a salwar khemise today, but realised that only old men wear them. am thinking about shaving beard.
